Boy it’s quiet around here. The graduation ceremonies are over, the students have (for the most part) left town for right now so the campus goes into summer mode. To go from the excitement and chatter of over 5,800 graduates and their family members to only hearing the sound of blowers and mowers is interesting. While not a total ghost town, it is a little eerie.
But shortly, we’ll be welcoming a new class of incoming freshman, graduate and transfer students. That’s right, New Student Conferences are less than 10 days away. For students, this is a great welcoming into the Aggie family and the opportunity to meet other Aggies, learn about resources and services. You’ll learn some ins and outs of Aggie life, Aggie traditions, plus weave your way around the campus visiting advisers, etc.
However, don’t let the New Student Conference name fool you. This is a family affair. Parents have their own sessions to learn about everything from residence halls and meal plans to loans and student life. There’s also plenty of opportunities to meet other parents of incoming Aggies.
So I’m going to enjoy the quiet, get a little more work done, and for those of you coming to visit, we look forward to seeing you.
With graduation being only two days away, I started thinking about my experience here and all the things I will miss. Over the past few years I have learned a lot both inside and outside of the classroom. I figure in the end you always think back to the beginning. I remember one of the first people I met in the student I.D. line. He was exactly what I expected an A&M student would be like. He was from a small town, the sweetest most well-mannered guy, whose ambition was to be a rice farmer. Ashley sure isn’t in Dallas anymore! As time went by I realized there isn’t a stereotype here, rather there are people from all walks of life. Read more…

I know it’s that time, at the end of the semester, when all you can think about is getting out of school! Final exams, papers and projects are anything but fun. Well students, hang in there, you’re almost done! After the hard work you’ve put in all semester long, it’s a good idea to take some kind of a break before you begin plugging away at an internship, job or summer school. Got any places in mind? Tuesday night I received a group invitation on facebook.com to attend a flash mob rave on Thursday afternoon. Little did I know how big of an event this would turn out to be and how many Aggies would attend. After I saw the youtube video on the event group page showing a flash mob rave at UNC Chapel Hill I realized what fun this would be and rsvp’ed by clicking “attending event.” Since construction begins this summer on the new MSC I will always remember our old home with a smile. I’ll think about the nine-minute shindig that took place at 12:15 Wednesday April 29, 2009. The Aggie spirit is alive and well my friends.
