John Chivvis
Occupation: Director, Web Initiatives
Department: Division of Marketing & Communications
Hometown: College Station, TX
Connection to Texas A&M: I’m a former student (’90 & ‘96) who’s been an undergrad, a grad, a lecturer and a staff member as part of my A&M career. Now as the Director of Web Initiatives for the Division of Marketing & Communications, I get the opportunity to work with folks all over the campus including these talented bloggers.
Favorite Aggie Tradition: I’d have to say the Aggie War Hymn. There is nothing like seeing the sway of maroon or white at Kyle Field or Reed Arena like waves in the ocean. There’s nothing like “sawing varsity’s horns off” with family members, friends or even total strangers.
Useful College Advice: Get involved. Whether it’s service organizations, student activities, intramurals, church groups, or through your classes, A&M is all about the experience. And to experience it means getting involved with opportunities, causes and people.
Interesting /Little Known Fact: As a kid, I was chased by baboons because they wanted my cookies. Safe to say, they got the cookies.
Favorite Everyday Phrase: “That ain’t right”. Because usually, it’s not.
Favorite spot on campus: Research Park. It’s a great place to jog, have a picnic, play disc golf, study, take pictures, and watch some freaky looking soft-shelled turtles.
One thing you would like people to know about A&M: These kids who come to our campus are tremendous. That’s why I enjoy coming to work every day.
